Review: Baby Bat Beauty Lipsticks

When I find nude lipsticks that work on WOC, I get really excited. When I find EXCELLENT nude lipsticks for WOC, I scream, shout, and let it ALL out! So I’m going to share one of my newest finds thanks to indie makeup brand Baby Bat Beauty and their luscious lipstick ‘Bonfire Babe’. I’ve also got picks of some of their other lovely lipsticks as well. Keep reading for more plus pictures!

Wearing ‘Bonfire Babe’ on my lips!
Baby Bat Beauty was kind enough to send me a few of their lipsticks to test out and I was like ‘SEND NUDES’.

I’m always on the hunt for a perfect nude for my complexion and say a bunch of potential favorites on their website and starting jumping up and down with new makeup excitement. I’ve been working with these for about 2 weeks – testing them out for color, formula, wear, etc. – and feel pretty confident in saying that ‘Bonfire babe’ (seen above) is my new favorite nude.

As you can see in the arm swatches above, ‘Bonfire Babe’ looked really orange on me. I was a little hesitant at first to try it on my lips so I paired it with MAC Lip Pencil in ‘Chestnut’ to tame it a little and bring it back to my neutral skintone. Once I paired it with ‘Chestnut’, it looked like a dream! Very close to my skintone and a perfect pairing for a daring eye look!

My next favorite is ‘Indulge’. I’m a big fan of chocolate brown shades and I almost didn’t pick this up because I wanted to “try new things” and yada yada. But in the end, it won out and it doesn’t disappoint at all.

‘Innocence’ and ‘Apparition’ are cool-toned as opposed to the warmth of ‘Bonfire Babe’ and ‘Indulge’. I’d wear these two shades as a statement lip. They are both bold, but subtle at the same time and look great with ‘Stone’ lip pencil from MAC Cosmetics. I like ‘Apparition’ a bit more than ‘Innocence’ because it’s a deeper grey and I feel I can get away with it more. ‘Innocence’ is a near dupe for Lime Crime ‘Cashmere’.

One of the really cool things about this formula is that it’s a mega matte. No shine or shimmer here! These take after liquid mattes due to their dryness so moisturize before you apply otherwise you run the risk of dry, cracked lips after application. Other than that tid bit, I really like the mega matte formula! It reminds me a lot of Melt Cosmetics matte lipstick. If you are a fan of that formula, you will feel right at home in baby Bat Beauty’s loving arms!

Review: Looxi Beauty Eyeshadow Collection “The Auroras 2”

One of Looxi Beauty’s most popular eyeshadow collection, The Auroras, now has another set of 12 shadows to keep it company in the top spot! Introducing The Auroras 2! These metallic shimmer shadows will bring out the bling in any special occasion … or occasional “Yes-I-made-up-my-face-just-so-I-could-stay-in” look. Looking for swatches on brown skin? I’ve got more pictures and a full review below!

Looxi Beauty The Auroras 2

No recent changes to my Looxi obsession. If anything, the addiction has deepend with the addition of these 12 new shadows. This collection has everything for a warm gold/copper lover to a purveyor of bold, bright shades.

Opening up my package, my eye was immediately drawn to Ultraviolet, a gorgeous pink/purple duochrome. That’s still my favorite so far! Next on that love list would be Siren of the Sea which reminds me of something Ariel would wear swimming around Atlantica in the pre-legs era. Seriously, the green would really play off her red hair!

Moving into the “nudes” (if you can call them that), the champagne nature of Aura fit in perfectly with the rose gold trend that’s booming right now. That’s something you can just put on your eyelid and run – nothing else needed. And I’d be blind if I said that Rockit didn’t drop my jaw immediately as well. This one is for all the copper lovers in the house!

Formula-wise, these are all similar to the original Auroras BUT there is less product kicked up when dipping a dry brush into a pan. I still recommend spritzing a little setting spray on your brush before you use since that will help with the overall application and increasing the metallic nature of the shadow. I am missing one shade from the 12 pan collection, but I felt that with these 11, I had a good sense of the consistency of all the shadows in the collection.

Looxi Beauty The Auroras 2

If you could only grab a handful, I would say go for my top 4: Rockit, Juno, Ultraviolet, and Siren of the Sea. These will cover your neutral and not-so-neutral needs. Some of the other colors – especially some of the neutrals – swatched a little too close for me to say you would need both. For example, Peachy Keen and Phoenix swatched within a half shade of each other. The same goes for Aura and Space Case (even though Space Case has a slight gold shift).

Overall, another excellent collection from Looxi Beauty! And with the shadows selling for only $5, you really can’t go wrong. And save more money with my affiliate code SPENCE10 at checkout!

Review: Beauty Escape Cosmetics Sinister Eyeshadow Collection

On Black Friday, I made more than a few powder eyeshadow puchases and one of my MUST HAVES was the Beauty Escape Cosmetics Sinister collection. I’d been drolling over these on Instagram and the second they become mine, I knew I had found a jewel. Interested in learning my thoughts on these shadows plus the two singles – The Huntsman & Aretmis – that I picked up? Keep reading to find out more below!

Beauty Escape Cosmetics Sinister Collection

I love foiled and metallic shadows, especially in the winter. I feel that the wintertime blues give me a pass to put some color back into my life in the form of smearing all sorts of colorful makeup on my face. Makes me happy and it cheers up other people I run into – win win situation!

I’d say the shadows in the Beauty Escape Cosmetics Sinister Collection more than qualify for listing under the ‘merry and bright’ category. First impression – my eyes went immediately to ‘Mother Goethel’ and ‘Wicked’ first and then to ‘The Huntsman’ and ‘Evil Queen’ next. I love true jewel shades so that explains the rich gold, emerald, and amethyst and I’ve been reaching for more champagne tones lately (with the fast approaching NYE party looks appearing on Instagram) so ‘The Huntsman’ is really no surprise either.

One shade I really didn’t know what to think of was ‘Artemis’, but once swatched I was hooked! It reminded me of how I fell in love with Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘ Truffle Glitter’, but this shade is a tad bit cooler – more pewter. Nevertheless, that was actually the first shadow I used on my eyelids from this haul. But I have no doubt I’ll be using them all soon!

I was able to snag one of these limited edition sets and if you are reading this fairly recently after I posted it, you might be able to snag your own set on Beauty Escape Cosmetics’ website (and you can use the discount code BEAUTYCULT for 15% off your purchase).
