This time around, will probably be no different.

Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Brushes

Morphe and Jaclyn are collaborating once again to bring us another limited edition 35 color eyeshadow palette launching June 21, 2017 on the Morphe website and at their Burbank, CA store. Jaclyn is bringing her MUA experience and star power to Morphe’s high quality, affordable range of professional artists and enthusiasts alike. The 35 color eyeshadow palette ranges from Jaclyn’s staple nude and gold tones to bold purples and blues. A gorgeous follow up to their previous collaboration, I’m expecting this to sell out immediately. If you are not able to purchase at launch or don’t feel like fighting the virtual crowds, Morphe does an excellent job at regularly restocking so you will definitely have a chance to purchase then.

The palette will retail for $38, but various discount codes (I’ll be using DUPETHAT for 10% off) will be valid at launch. Since this item is limited edition, it does have a cool silver cardboard surround with a special note from Jaclyn printed on the inside cover that separates it from Morphe’s standard black plastic packaging. So who’s grabbing this (either at launch or a restock)? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Looxi Beauty Summer 2017 Shimmer Shadow Collection https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/06/looxi-beauty-summer-2017-shimmer-shadow-collection/ https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/06/looxi-beauty-summer-2017-shimmer-shadow-collection/#respond Sun, 04 Jun 2017 22:26:35 +0000 Looxi Beauty recently launched the second part of their summer 2017 collection and it’s full shimmer goodness. I had the chance to play in some of the shadows pre-launch and this collection is everything I was hoping for from Looxi this summer. The collection included ten new Aurora (duochrome shimmer formula) shadows with shades ranging from lemon yellow to enchanted forest green.

The formula is consistent with previously released Auroras and might actually be a tad bit smoother on application. I always use a base with these – whether that is a heavy duty eye primer like Too Face Glitter Glue Primer or a concealer like the L.A. Girl Pro HD Concealer – because the pigment is super intense and tends to fly all over the place on application. Gotta make sure it stays on my eyeballs like it should!

One of my favorite things about this formula is the intensity of the shimmer. There are a few shades in this collection (Juice, Rage, Savage, Misfit) that have intense duochromes and you can really see them change immediately in different light. However, the pigment intensity is just as strong with some of the subtle duochromes where you have to look a little closer to see a shift (Boujee, Cherub, Lemon). Of course the intensity can also be ramped up with a black base to give it that extra OOMPH!

My favorites from this collection have to be Lemon, Firefly, Boujee, and Juice. I never knew I could love a yellow shimmer as much as I love Lemon. And I blame this yellow kick on MAC’s Chroma Yellow that I just purchased and have used in pretty much every look since I got it in the mail. Lemon layered over Chroma Yellow literally makes my heart flutter. Look at my inner corner in the picture below and try and tell me it doesn’t give you all the yellow feels!

Looxi Beauty Summer 2017 Lemon, Afterparty, Firefly
Using Looxi Beauty Lemon, Afterparty, and Firefly on my lids from inner to outer corner.

Firefly (also seen above on my outer third) is such a rare shade that I’m really glad Looxi took the jump and made one. I have not seen an ingredient list for this shadow, but most red pigments contain ingredients that irritate the eye and are thus unsafe for use. This particular shade didn’t give me any trouble, but I’m not typically sensitive to different ingredients. And believe me, being a beauty blogger I’ve tried just about everything!

If you decide to pick up any of the Looxi shadows (or anything else), I’d be thrilled if you use my affiliate code SPENCE10 at checkout. You get 10% off and I get a little $$ to help continue bringing you the best in beauty!

Let me know in the comments below if there are any shadows from this collection you are drooling over!

Does POPWHITE Brighten Those Pearly Not-So-Whites? https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/05/does-popwhite-brighten-those-pearly-not-so-whites/ https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/05/does-popwhite-brighten-those-pearly-not-so-whites/#respond Sun, 21 May 2017 18:26:31 +0000 Back in March, POPWHITE kindly reached out and asked me to test out their whitening toothpaste and mouthwash. I was totally down to try it out since the products claim to brighten using color science, not peroxide. I’ve had mixed experiences with peroxide in past – usually all ending in my gums being on fire. Beauty is not worth that much pain!

I don’t consider myself to have sensitive gums or teeth. I brush twice a day (most days). I floss and use mouthwash at least once a day. I go to the dentist faithfully twice a year. I don’t have any fillings and I have never had any major dental work.

I thought I might be a pretty good use case!

My only hesitation was my past experience with harsh teeth whitening chemicals. But POPWHITE promised to be different.

POPWHITE relies on a color science threory you are more likely to see in a salon today than anywhere else. Just as purple toner is used to cancel out the yellow in blonde hair dye, POPWHITE relies on their purple formula to whiten yellow teeth. Here’s what the brand says about the products:

“POPWHITE Whitening Primer is a multi-benefit toothpaste that whitens, brightens, polishes and cleans teeth while freshening breath with peppermint oil and reducing plaque and tarter. The Primer preps the teeth for POPWHITE Whitening Toner, a multi-benefit oral rinse that enhances dental whitening and brightening, adds sheesm deeply freshens breath with peppermint oil and reduces plaque and tarter. The Primer and Toner Power Duo should be used together, twice a day, every day.”

I began using booth the toothpaste and mouthwash mid-March everyday, twice a day for about three days, until my poor gums got so sensitive I had to reduce my use down to once a day. I didn’t change anything else about my routine other than adding in POPWHITE, so I assumed it must be the mouthwash. Even though the directions clearly state that results are best when using the duo twice a day, I couldn’t continue like that. Once I made that change, my gums and I were much happier.

The process to pearly whites has been much slower since I reduced my usage down to once a day, but it’s kind of a tortoise and the hare type of thing for me. And I’m completely fine being the tortoise.

I’ve seen minimal results, but there is just the slightest improvement. I will probably continue to use this product up, but unfortunately won’t repurchase. I fear my teeth whitening fate isn’t interlaced with POPWHITE this time around!

If you are interested in learning more about POPWHITE (and don’t have sensitive gums like me), you can check out their website at popwhitesmile.com. The duo is available for $36 (a $48 value).

Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in ‘Molten Gold’ https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/05/maybelline-master-chrome-metallic-highlighter-in-molten-gold/ https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/05/maybelline-master-chrome-metallic-highlighter-in-molten-gold/#respond Sun, 21 May 2017 17:43:09 +0000 I’m a huge fan of highlighters and the more golden goddess-y / bling all in your face / see me from Mars, the better! Usually reserved for indie or luxury beauty brands, it’s rare to see a quality highlighter from a drugstore brand, save for NYX Cosmetics or Makeup Revolution (which you still can’t usually find at your corner drugstore). So when Maybelline dropped their first Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter, you know I had to have it.

I ordered their first shade ‘Molten Gold’ via Amazon and it got to me in two days. With an already low retail price of $8 and my free prime shipping, I’d say that was a pretty darn good deal. I wasn’t really sure what to expect with the formula since this product is brand new to the Maybelline line. When I first swatched it, I wasn’t blown away by the powdery feel. It reminded me of how the Ofra ‘You Dew You’ and ‘You Glow Girl’ highlighters are, but the product didn’t glide on as smoothly when I took my finger to my arm for a swatch. Aside from that fact, it blended beautifully and definitely lived up to the ‘Master Chrome’ name!

The finish is incredibly metallic. That’s exactly how I like it, but I know not everyone appreciates a galactic glow. There are fine pieces of glitter in the product that do an excellent job of reflecting in natural and artificial light. They aren’t overbearing in my opinion, but if you don’t like glitter in your highlighter you probably won’t like this product.

Another tid bit I really like about this product is the color itself. It’s a warm, semi-bronze gold that is VERY flattering on brown skin. I never really know what to expect with Maybelline since their foundation / concealer shade range isn’t that brown girl friendly. But it’s clear that they had medium and brown skin beauties in mind during product planning. In the future, I hope they will release some other shades complementary across the shade spectrum, but this baby will more than tide you over till then.

If you are wondering how this product compares shade wise to other highlighters in my collection, check out the comparison swatch below. Did I miss a product comparison? Let me know in the comments!

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit ‘Aurora’ https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/04/review-anastasia-beverly-hills-glow-kit-aurora/ https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/04/review-anastasia-beverly-hills-glow-kit-aurora/#respond Sun, 16 Apr 2017 00:00:00 +0000 Glow lovers everywhere have awaited the release of Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in ‘Aurora’. The Glow Kit’s shade selection is reminiscent of the aurora borealis so if you want a Northern Lights glow, you better get with the program and check this beauty out! I’ve been testing some of the shades over the past week and can’t wait to share my thoughts on this palette below!

If you have been following me for any amount of time, you know I am all about that glow! I search high and low for amazing shades and formulas and my hunt has brought me to my most recent purchase: Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in ‘Aurora’. This is definitely one of the most talked about palette’s of the spring and I get a sense it was released around this time because it is perfect for creating festival looks. C’mon really, how many times a year is it appropriate to wear lavender highlighter out of the house!  Sister to the ‘Moonchild’  Glow Kit, this beauty is a little more colorful if you compare palette to palette.

As you can see from the second picture, both palettes are loved with ‘Moonchild’ (bottom) getting all kinds of use. I don’t only use ‘Moonchild’ for highlighting. In fact, I primarily use the shades as eyeshadow – often in the inner third when I want my already large eyes to look even bigger. I plan to play around with ‘Aurora’, but right now I’m leaning towards using it in a similar way. However, since the shades in ‘Aurora’ are more vibrant, I’ve played around using it all over my eyelids, not just in the inner third. Below I used the shade ‘Orion’ on my lower lash line and a combination of ‘Lyra’, ‘Spectra’ and ‘Eclipse’ up top. I also used ‘Orion’ on my cheekbones.

One of my favorite things about these crazy shades is the versatility and that is probably the number one reason I buy them. I can use these shades in a lot of ways and since I like to experiment, the palettes get used quite often. If you aren’t the type of person to experiment or you gawk at the idea of walking around with a shimmer blue pigment on your cheeks, then this probably isn’t the investment for you. However, if you like to play, I would recommend taking the leap and purchasing ‘Aurora’ so you can let your imagination run wild. If you already have ‘Moonchild’ and you are wondering if you need another similar palette, then you don’t really need this. But, I think shades ‘Orion’, ‘Spectra’, and ‘Lyra’ are enough for me to recommend purchasing this one as well. I’ve included shade comparisons for ‘Orion’ (blue) and ‘Spectra’ because I wanted you guys to see how unique these shades actually are! And I love ‘Helia’ so much because I don’t have anything to compare it to (hence no comparison pictures). I’m interested to know how you use this palette (or ‘Moonchild’). Let me know in the comments below!

Review: Give Me Glow Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palette #StaplePalette https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/04/review-give-me-glow-cosmetics-eyeshadow-palette-staplepalette/ https://www.spencesbeauty.com/2017/04/review-give-me-glow-cosmetics-eyeshadow-palette-staplepalette/#respond Tue, 11 Apr 2017 00:00:00 +0000 Have you ever owned a palette that you could literally use for your entire face? It’s not only great for eyeshadow, but you could find blush, contour, highlight shades if it came to it. I’ve only seen a handful, but none from indie brands. Until now. Give Me Glow Cosmetics has just released a palette of staple shades that will keep you busy for a long long time. Keep reading for more thoughts and pictures!

I knew as soon as this palette was announced that I wanted to get my paws on it! Luckily, I was able to snag it at release before it sold out (don’t worry, it’s permanent and will be restocked). Let’s jump right into the goodness that is the #StaplePalette from Give Me Glow Cosmetics.

Swatching this, I was immediately impressed by the mattes. For some reason, indie/smaller brands struggle a lot more with the mattes that the shimmers. I’m not a product creator so I won’t begin to speculate why, but Give Me Glow Cosmetics clearly doesn’t have that problem.

These mattes are pure butter. No issues with any of the shades during swatching and even face application proved to be a flawless process. They blend well, stay pretty much true to color even on my skintone and the color can be layered to create a more intense shade. My immediate favorite matte shades were Adorbs (because I am hopelessly obsessed with rusty reds / pinks), Hashtag, and Two Moods. I don’t have a matte olive green in my collection so Two Moods was especially a winner in my book.

The shimmer shades (Highlight, Selfie, Follow Me) are perfect. Super pigmented with minimal fallout and can be used as cheek highlights as well. They aren’t too glittery, but provide a bright glow in the light. I’m all about that glow life so the texture suits me well. I used Follow Me as a highlight in the picture below.

Would I recommend this palette? Abso-freakin-lutely.

It’s amazing as a shadow palette, but the versatility comes from the inclusion of shades that can be used elsewhere on the face. I used No Filter as a blush and Follow Me as a highlight in the picture above. I can also see my fairer skin friends using Ride or Die as a contour in a pinch as it isn’t too warm and I’m not above trying out the cool brown Dark As My Soul (with a light hand of course) as a contour shade for myself. I will probably try it out once I get a little more tan this summer.

Have you grabbed your palette already? Let me know in the comments below!
