First Impression: TKB Trading Pure Micas and Pigments

If you want to get the facts straight, you need to hear the story straight from the horse’s mouth, right? Well, how about “If you want the purest form of an eyeshadow pigment, head straight to TKB Trading.” I’ve got swatches of some jaw dropping colors for you guys that I just got in from cosmetics supplier TKB Trading. Plus I’ve got tips for wearing these gorgeous shades!

Let me start off this post by telling you bit more about TKB Trading. They are a wholesaler of pigments, dyes, and pure micas. They do not specialize in ready-to-wear colors, but instead provide the supplies for you to mix your own cosmetics. So some of the names aren’t always cute-sy, but instead names of minerals or mineral mixes.

However, they do offer some ready-made colors that are indicated on their site by the title ‘MyMix + (Shade Name)’. But if you see a shade that doesn’t have this designation, it doesn’t mean that it’s not ready to put straight on your eyelids! You will just have to take some extra steps to make sure it will stick on your lid. One easy method is to apply to pigment on top of a glitter base. You don’t need much color, just a thin layer, to give your lid an opaque finish.

If you aren’t too comfortable working with messy pigments or you like drama-free makeup, these colors aren’t for you! You definitely need time to play with them otherwise you will end up covered in pigment everywhere except where you wanted it to go! But if you are more adventurous with your makeup, I’d say order a sample ($1.50 for 6 grams) and play around with it. Who knows, you might start playing with the colors, decide to make start making and selling makeup, and become so successful you are dubbed the next NARS Cosmetics! If that happens, I better get kudos for putting you on to TKB! 😉

In the swatches below, I’ve also compared some of the shades to colors I already own from companies like MAC Cosmetics, Looxi Beauty and Anastasia Beverly Hills. While these shades aren’t exact dupes (or in some cases, even close) it gives you a comparison to shadows you may already own. I’ll be buying more colors from TKB Trading, so check out my blog in the next few weeks for more swatches and updates on how I use these shades and how they performed on my eyes.
