First Impression: Melt Cosmetics Lipstick ‘Lewd’ & ‘Do Gaf’

This was my first time purchasing lipsticks from Melt Cosmetics even though I have been following the brand for a while and love the Dark Matter eyeshadow stack. Something about the ultra-matte lipstick formula has kind of scared me off. I was always worried the formula would be too dry and accentuate my chapped lips at every chance. However, I bit the bullet when Melt announced their new metallic shades, Lewd & DO?GAF. They are must haves and now I can tell you why below!

I’m a huge purple lipstick lover – I’ve got pencils, lipglosses, lipsticks, and liquid mattes in every shade of purple imaginable. So I knew as soon as the metallic ‘Lewd’ was announced that I needed it in my collection. I was a little more aprehensive about ‘DO?GAF’, however, because I’m not really a blue gal. But my girl Mayra ‘Lip Drama’ convinced me to purchase and get my blue on! So happy I listened to her!

At first application, ‘DO?GAF’ is my favorite. It is incredibly pigmented and applied really well! The formula is still dry and I think the metallic specks added to the dryness, but with only one coat needed, my lips didn’t get a workout on application. Lewd, on the other hand, was a little more sheer than I expected. The pigmentation didn’t quite match it’s blue brother and it had a hard time covering my natural lip color. It got a little bit patchy in the middle of my lips and, as you can see in the picture above, it’s not full coverage around the edges either.

I guess it’s worth noting that I exfoliated my lips before application and I applied ‘Lewd’ first. Even though it didn’t ‘wow’ me, I have a plan to put it over a variety of purple pencils and make lemonade out of psuedo-lemons (Do you think Queen B would rock this shade!?). If you guys have any suggestions for blue lip liners, let me know in the comments! I want more blue!

BONUS: Keep scrolling for a picture of some dupes for ‘Lewd’! Still working on finding ones for my blue bombshell, but I’ll keep you all updated!

The closest dupe I have in my collection is Lime Crime’s ‘Poisonberry’ Unicorn Lipstick. I believe these are about to be discontinued, so you can find it on sale for $8 a ton of places! it retails for $18.
Some additional dupe mixes for ‘Lewd’. Nothing I have is identical, but you can get the look for a fraction of the cost with some of these Nicka K lip liners. They can be commonly found at beauty supply stores.

  • Yeah I noticed in some pics Lewd did look kinda sheer. It’s inspired partly by Dark Room and many were disappointed to find the promo pics used a dark liner to help achieve the look, which is slightly deceiving. But it can be layered. Metallics looks can be hard to layer as it tends to become patchy. Probably best used with a liner but that sucks that it’s not like the promo pics. Yassssss on finally getting a blue lipstick. I’m glad I convinced you to join the club lol. I’ll probably get Do?GAF eventually but I realized I need to wear ones I own more often rather than buying more expensive lipsticks. Especially when soon they’ll be unable to be worn smh.

  • I just got my Lewd lipstick yesterday and and as beautiful as the color looked online and in thr tube, in real life I was so dissapointed! I had all the same problems, even after exfoliating and mosterizing my lips prior. I really wish I would’ve stumbled across this blog sooner, that way I could’ve sent it back before I tried it on and exchanged it for a better performing color. For 19 bucks plus the 7 dollar shipping, it better be worth it, right?!

    • Oh mannnn! So sorry you had a disappointing experience : ( Try it over a base color (purple liquid matte works great!) and maybe you can salvage the purchase!
