Review: Beauty Escape Cosmetics Highlighters

In my humble opinion, indie brands are far surpassing higher end / mass produced highlighters this year. So much so, that I have only purchased one highlighter from a large brand THIS ENTIRE YEAR (two if you count the Becca x Jaclyn Champagnge Pop face palette). One of my newly discovered fav brands from Etsy is Beauty Escape Cosmetics and they have a range of shades formulated specifically for deep skintones. If you are interested in seeing how my newest three highlighters performed, keep reading!

I’m so serious about my highlighters you guys! And this obsession has only been slowly growing for a little over a year and even I am embarrassed to show you how many highlighters I own. I can only justify only so many warm pink / gold shades … or can I!?My highlighter purchasing this year has slowed a little as I try my best to enjoy some of the ones I already own, but with my focus now turned to indie brand Beauty Escape Cosmetics (BEC), I’m not sure if I will successfully make it through the year without doubling my BEC collection!

A few weeks ago, I reviewed my first purchase from them and the owner Ana was kind enough to send me three more to test out! Ana makes sure that she covers the needs of brown skin beauties by specifying on her shop’s Etsy page which shades look best of deep skin. Score for my brown beauties!

This time around, I received Amora, Zingara, and Rumpelstiltskin – all three of which are for deep skin. Starting off with Rumpelstiltskin (try typing this 100 times fast), it’s a gorgeous warm pink / gold. Exactly the shade that I already have plenty of duplicates of! But this one is so perfectly formulated it glides on my cheeks with ease using either a brush OR my fingers. I can’t say that about all of the other products of the same shade that I own so it makes this one unique. On my complexion, this is a little brighter than I would want to wear everyday, so I’ll classify it as a special occasion / night out product.

Next up is Amora! This is definitely the first non gold or pink shade I own. I tend to get scared off by colorful highlighters because I just don’t know what they will look like on me and honestly don’t want to end up wasting money! But BEC’s affordable pricing ($7.50 per pan) makes it possible to try this shade out without breaking the bank on a $30 Jeffree Star Cosmetics ‘Lavender Snow’. This is a cool deep purple that doesn’t look scary bright on my cheeks so it keeps it fun without people asking you if you used an eyeshadow for a highlight.

Last up is Zingara and y’all I swear I have this on my bare face right now in my pajamas in my apartment – just because. If a highlighter can make you feel glamorously high-fashion in a robe, it’s a keeper!  This shade is a tad lighter than my previously purchased Lorelei and again can be applied with my fingers or a brush. I’d suggest fingers when you want to really concentrate the color.

To top things off, if you are thinking of purchasing any of these shades (or anything from BEC), Ana has gifted me a discount code for you guys to use! At checkout, enter SPENCE15 for $$ off! Let me know what you are loving right now in the comments below!
