NYX Luv Out Loud Liquid Lipsticks

Is anyone out there a fan of the NYX Liquid Suede liquid lipstick formula? I’m on the fence – sometimes I’m a fan of the creamy, non-drying liquid lipstick formula. Other times I want something long-wearing that is going to last through a tsunami. I go back and forth.

NYX Cosmetics does the creamy formula reallllyyyy well. I rank them up there with the ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip formula. Definitely my go-tos when I’m in the mood for the non-drying lip. NYX graciously sent me six of their newest liquid lippies in this formula and I had to immediately throw them on my lips. Their new collection is called ‘Luv Out Loud’. Each of the six lipsticks have empowering names like Brave or Passionate. Their website says the collection names are all “attributes we at NYX Professional Makeup find truly beautiful”.

Haul: The Makeup Show Dallas Blogger Preview Goodie Bag

This past weekend I attended The Makeup Show Dallas at the Hyatt Regency Downtown! I was blessed to be able to attend the press / blogger preview and receive a bangin’ goodie bag full of pro makeup artist James Vincent’s favorite products. If you are interested in seeing what I was gifted (+ what I purchased), keep reading!

Viseart, Kevyn Aucoin, Inglot … oh my!

I have been waiting MONTHS for The Makeup Show to come to Texas! One of the first things I looked up when I moved to Texas was the beauty conference schedule – no lie! That’s one of the benefits of this new state compared to Georgia which had very few non-industry events. I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to attend events like The Makeup Show that are so close to home.

With that being said, I arrived to in Dallas on Friday afternoon to give myself some time to relax before the show started on Saturday morning. I had the chance to be one of the ‘cool kids’ for the day and attend the blogger preview on Saturday morning. That’s the hour and a half where all you have to do is sit and be mesmerized by the presence that is pro MUA and Director of Education for The Makeup Show James Vincent! James has a ton of experience under his belt – apprentice to Kevyn Aucoin, dozens of Fashion Weeks, and the famous Amy Winehouse winged liner just to name a few. He walked us through the new releases at the show like the Smashbox Be Legendary lipsticks and Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge range.

Being invited to the press preview means you get the goodie bag of all goodie bags with a ton of James’ favorite backstage must haves in a huge bag that changes as the show’s sponsors change (this year the bag was a black cloth bag from MUFE). I’ll share with you what I received in that bag PLUS the items I purchased myself from the many vendors in attendance. I went into this show not wanting a ton of stuff, but I did grab a handful of items.

Get The Look: Pink Nude Matte Lips for WOC

What is the biggest beauty struggle for WOC? Finding products that match our varied skintones! One of the largest issues for me personally is finding ‘nude’ lipsticks that match my definition of ‘nude’. Nude for me is quite a bit deeper, and more pink, than the typical cool, sand shade you see over and over again from all the major brands. But after trying countless lippies, I’ve compiled a list of lipsticks from my own collection that I grab when I want to go completely in the nude!

My friend Whitney texted me on Thursday asking me about nude lipsticks, specifically wanting to find something that would look complementary to her skintone (which is a little darker than mine). She told me that she had seen a fairer friend wearing Candy K from Kylie Cosmetics and wanting something that would flatter her skin like pale pink color looked on the other girl.

So I got to thinking about what ‘nude’ means to beauty lovers of color. We have a much different idea in our minds, way different than Candy K and there are only a few companies that cater towards the struggle! I decided, in answer to Bama’s question (I call Whitney, ‘Bama’ because she’s from Alabama … it’s a southern thing!), that I would come up with a couple of options for a go-to ‘WOC nude’. Keep reading below to see what I came up with!

Coloured Raine Matte Lip Paint ‘Mars’
I’m a big fan of the Coloured Raine Matte Lip Paint formula, it’s highly pigmented and one coat is enough for full coverage for my lips. It’s a tad bit drying, but it doesn’t budge once dried down! Coloured Raine, $17
ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip ‘StingRaye’
If you are a fan of ‘ItsMyRayeRaye’ on YouTube/Instagram, this is her baby! She collabed with ColourPop to bring us a small collection of ‘nudes’ that flatter a lot of skintones. This liquid lipstick in particular is my favorite from that collection. ColourPop, $6
GiveMeGlow Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick ‘Jane Smith’
GiveMeGlow is one of my favorite indie brands and I’ve watched the company grow from lip creams to lip laquers to matte liquid lipstick over the past year! This shade is my favorite from the brand and I wore it every day for nearly a month to work last summer. Unfortunately, this shade is discontinued, but you can find a similar color in the shade ‘She’s All That’. GiveMeGlow, $13.25
ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip ‘Teeny Tiny’
Also from ColourPop (quite a few on this list are), is ‘Teeny Tiny’ which is a tad bit darker, and more greige, than ‘StingRaye’. It’s a little bolder, a little sexier, and the perfect nude for a night out. ColourPop, $6
ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip ‘Tulle’
Another ColourPop favorite from their original launch of about 20 shades last summer! ‘Tulle’ was one of my first nude loves and I’m nearly finished with the tube. That should tell you something! This shade is a little more pink than brown, but it matches my lip color almost perfectly when paired with MAC Lip Pencil in ‘Chestnut’. ColourPop, $6
Glitter Elixirs Liquid Lipstick ‘It Puts Lipstick In The Basket’
If I had to pick one favorite from this list, it would be ‘It Puts Lipstick In The Basket’! This is the only shade that is actually darker than my natural color while still being nude and not completely brown. Kudos to Kennedy at Glitter Elixirs for creating a shade that can work on my complexion or someone darker than me! Etsy

BONUS SHADES!

ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip ‘Kae’
Definitely not a pink-y nude, but this shade would look gorgeous on someone with a warmer complexion than me. It’s more orange/brown and it is part of the ‘KaePop’ collaboration between LA socialite/model Karrueche and ColourPop. ColourPop, $6
NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream ‘Dubai’
This didn’t make the top picks because it doesn’t dry all the matte and it definitely doesn’t stay in place all day, BUT that doesn’t mean its not a fabulous color! This is a true nude for me – not all the way pink, not all the way brown. I especially play around with this in the warmer months as I can put it on with just about any crazy eye look I come up during the summer. Ulta, $6

Get The Look: Top 8 Contouring Eyeshadows for Brown Girls

Ok, so it’s really nine, but who’s counting when you are sorting eyeshadows!? Below, I’ve listed by top eye contouring shades for brown girls. I’ve yet to come across a palette that has everything I need so I’m forced to provide you with shades from a handful of different brands (NYX Cosmetics, Looxi Beauty, Makeup Geek Cosmetics, MAC Cosmetics) to bring you eye contouring combinations for warm, neutral, and cool skin undertones.

If you eye lids are darker than your face color, I’d suggest lightly patting a concealer that matches your face color over your lid before you apply any shadow. This will help even out your canvas and give you a clean slate to work on. The concealer will also act as a primer to help your shadow last all day without creasing or fading. The ONLY concealer that has consistently worked on my eyelids is the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Concealer. It gives an absolutely flawless, full-coverage finish to my lids. When I have a tan, I will mix it with a little bit of MAC Pro Longwear Concealer to ensure that the color always matches my natural skin tone.

For each combination, I selected a brow bone highlight shade (left) that can also be used as a inner corner highlight to make the high points of your eyes stand out. The middle shade is meant for all over the lid and slightly up into the transition area. These lid shades should match (or be very close to) your natural skin tone. Lastly, I’ve included a contouring shade on the far right. This color can be used very lightly in the transition area of your eyelid (where you can feel your eye socket bone) to give it slight definition. You can also deepen this color on the outer corner/outer third of the eye to add some depth there as well.

If you are interested in any of these shades, just click on the picture and it will take you to the corresponding site for purchase. All NYX and Looxi shadows are $5. Makeup Geek shadows are $6. MAC shadows are $16 (or purchase the pan separately for $10). The Looxi and Makeup Geek shadows will require you to have a magnetic palette for storage. Let me know if this is helpful to you guys! I love reading your comments!

Get The Look: Top 8 Fall Eyeshadows

The end of summer is near! August is right around the corner and that means it’s time to start thinking about switching up your makeup routine for the new season. Goodbye hot pink lipstick, hello berry lips! To help jump start the transition, I’ve listed my top 8 eyeshadows to pair with your new fall look. Keep reading below to see my favs!

To me, nothing says fall quite like pumpkins. The idea of pumpkin farms, Halloween pumpkin carving, pumpkin pie, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks make my little heart flutter! My first eyeshadow pick for fall screams ‘PUMPKIN’! This shade has some shimmer in it so it would be great as a lid or inner corner color. Coastal Scents, $1.95
This matte navy blue shade will up your smokey eye game to a 1000! Instead of black, which can still be a bit harsh for balmy autumn nights, try a dark blue lid color instead. You can always add a bit of black on the outer colors to further deepen the color. Or try a black eyeshadow base to make the color pop. My personal favorite is also from NYX.
NYX Cosmetics, $4.50

Make them green with envy when you walk by in this shimmery moss green shadow! This color is from one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes from celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff. This shade is especially gorgeous on hazel or dark brown eyes. Pair this with a bit of gold shadow in your inner corner and you are set for the night! Amazon, $19.75
Of course I was going to add a copper shadow to this list, DUH! I absolutely love this one by MAC which I got a few months ago. Not only is the formula super smooth, but it is buildable. You can apply a little bit of product for a subtle glow on your lid, or you can pack it on for an intense bright copper finish. MAC Cosmetics, $16

If you are looking for the most bang for your buck, look no further than Looxi Beauty ‘Urbane’! The pigmentation of this shadow is out of this world amazing. It is a dusty gold with a bit of a green undertone. You don’t have to use much to make a statement. This shade is especially beautiful in dim light so pull it out for date night! Looxi Beauty, $5
My love for mineral pigments knows no bounds! Pure pigments like ‘Tempura’ from Ultimo Cosmetics offer the most intense color payoff out of all the shades on this list. I’ve worn this shade over a black eyeshadow base to a concert and it didn’t budge during a night filled with dancing and singing along at the top of my lungs. ‘Tempura’ can hang, honey! Jenny’s Mineral Shack, $4.88

If you aren’t as comfortable with colorful eyeshadow as I am, you will look beautiful (and still be in your comfort zone) with this peachy, golden shimmer from ColourPop Cosmetics and YouTube beauty vlogger KathleenLights. You really can’t go wrong with a shade like this during any time of the year, but there is something about gold in fall that makes it feel more appropriate. This shadow is sold in a set of four colors developed by KathleenLights for ColourPop. ColourPop, $20
There is no way this list would be complete without a smokey matte black! I’ve picked one of my go-to black shades that will add another layer of sultriness to any of the other shadows on this list. Of course you can hit the town with a traditional smokey eye, but you can also add a tiny bit of this to the outer corner of your eye look to take it from day to night. This black has medium pigmentation so you can build up the darkness of your lid to your comfort level. Milani Cosmetics, $3.99

Upcoming Collection: NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick

NYX Cosmetics is coming out with more liquid lispticks. Hold the phone! A few days ago, we got a taste of what’s to come from NYX Cosmetics this summer! Fresh off an incredibly busy spring release for the brand that included a contouring palette, range of brow products, and a new line of shimmering eyeshadows, NYX plans to keep sharing the wealth as the year progresses!

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (below) were seen at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Charity Gala sporting a single shade from the new liquid lipstick range. Makeup artist Ana Marie Rizzieri also snapped this behind the scenes picture (above) of several more shades as well.

The packaging does state that this is a ‘cream lipstick’ so I wonder how different this will be from the Matte Lip Creams that currently take up about half of my liquid lipstick drawer. I seriously love those things! Those have a creamy consistency as well and are fairly long lasting for a drugstore product. No word yet on how many colors we can expect, but the products are coming in June 2015. I’ll keep you updated as more details and a specific release date gets released!

First Impression: NYX Cosmetics High Voltage Lipstick & Intense Butter Gloss New for Spring 2015

As I have said many times before, I am completely obsessed with NYX Cosmetics. Their products are comparable to most mid-high end brands in terms of quality and their eye & lip color selection is unparalleled. In my eyes, this drugstore brand can do no wrong and their NEW High Voltage Lipsticks and Intense Butter Glosses are no exception. And I’ve got some pretty awesome swatches below to prove it!

I wasn’t expecting anything less than amazing when made my most recent NYX Cosmetics purchase from Ulta last week. However, I only got four shades in each product just to be safe and test everything out before I just went crazy and bought every color. If you are considering either of these for your next beauty purchase, be realistic with yourself about how many you need. If you want to rock all these colors, buy everything! Go for the gold! But if you would regularly only wear one color, don’t let the inexpensive price guilt you into buying the whole lot. These shades are permanent so you have plenty of time to test things out and make sure they are perfect for you before splurging.

I am tremendously pleased with the selection I got from Ulta last week! The lipsticks reminded me a lot of the look of ColourPop Lippie Stix with the flat top twist out tube. The colors went on satin and had so much pigmentation it made me squeal with delight! I was not expecting to swipe once and be done. That luxury is normally reserved for my $16 MAC tubes. They did not streak and glided on without a single tug. These colors do bleed and I found this especially true with the bright red, ‘Hollywood’, which bled almost immediately when I tried it on my lips (I did not use lip liner for my initial test).

The only similarity I found with the Intense Butter Glosses and the regular Butter Glosses was in the naming series. These still have cute names that make you feel like you are picking out goodies from a bakery instead of from your makeup stash. The newest additions were thick and very pigmented in comparison to the light, sheer wash of color the original provides. The applicator wand, which is long and flat, was a little difficult for me. It almost looks like a spatula that you would use to remove cream makeup products, except it is covered with the fabric-like fibers to help the color stick to your lips. The applicator was so long is spanned the length of my bottom lip so I had to be more careful than I normally am when applying this gloss. Most times, I just like to sort of throw it on really fast before I go run errands. I feel like I would need more focus for these.

But enough blabbering, you all want pictures! So, without any further ado, I present to you my first eight (four of each) NYX Spring 2015 Lip Product Swatches!  If you have any favorites already, be sure to share them with me in the comments so I have an excuse to go get more. =) I hope you enjoy!

Upcoming Collection: NYX Cosmetics Intense Butter Gloss

I really love the formula of the regular NYX butter gloss and I am very interested to see how NYX will improve upon this formula in their new Spring 2015 collection.

I first bought these because I couldn’t resist the names. Buying your favorite dessert without the guilt – count me in! LOL I currently have six regular NYX Butter Glosses: Tiramisu, Angel Food Cake, Praline, Peach Cobbler, Red Velvet, Devil’s Food Cake. These glosses are very sheer so they are great to throw on over a pigmented, matte lip color to add some shine. They are lightweight and don’t feel sticky on the lips. I hate when I ‘feel’ the gloss just sitting on my lips. It feels so weird to me!

One of the major selling points of these glosses, for me, was that they are $6 each. I am very conscious of my budget and I don’t feel like I’m breaking the bank with these! They can be found at Ulta Beauty or on the NYX website. I can even find them at my local beauty supply stores so if you can’t find your desired color at Ulta, check your local beauty supply before you order online and pay for shipping.
